Donate

Your donation helps preserve the voices, stories, and contributions of Jewish communities throughout Washington State. Through oral histories, archival preservation, educational programs, and public exhibitions, your support ensures that this rich heritage remains accessible to current and future generations.

In 2026, after more than four decades as an independent nonprofit, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS) joined the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. This new partnership allows WSJHS to continue its mission of preserving and sharing the history of Jewish communities across Washington State.

To support WSJHS programs, restricted gifts can be made through the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s online donation form. When making a check donation or pledge, please clearly indicate that the gift is “restricted for WSJHS.” If you have questions or need additional instructions, please contact us at info@wsjhs.org.

Thank you for making a gift today and helping us keep Jewish history alive—one story at a time.

Interviewing

Most of our volunteers are community members who are interested in interviewing narrators. Interviewing for an oral history is a fantastic opportunity that provides participants with valuable life experiences and real, lasting connections. WSJHS interviewers will be highly trained, meaning that this experience may support future career goals where applicable.

Transcriptions

Volunteers who are expert writers and editors are invited to work on our interview transcriptions. Each oral history recording will be filtered through an AI transcription generator, which will need to be reviewed closely before it is published on our website. Our AI tools will also generate interview summaries and indexing terms, which our volunteers will edit for clarity and accuracy. These volunteers are essential in creating content suitable for our website.

Archiving

We need vigilantly detail-oriented volunteers to work on entering information into our archival management system. Our oral history program relies on our database to call up material from our archive when it's required for an exhibit or for research. Our ability to call up that material relies completely on accurate and consistent data entry. We need volunteers who are excited about behind-the-scenes experience to help us get all of our collections neatly tucked away into a new archival management system.
