SEATTLE, WA — After more than 20 years of visionary leadership, Lisa Kranseler will step down from her role as Executive Director of the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (WSJHS). She will continue to serve in a new part-time role as Executive Director Emerita, focusing on development and legacy initiatives, which include a special newly curated exhibit being launched in commemoration of Jewish American Heritage Month in May 2026, at an event in which Kranseler will also be honored. Back in 2005, when completing her UW Museum Studies practicum, Kranseler began with what was then a small and hopeful historical society. Together, with the board, staff and community, she grew into an institution recognized across Washington State, throughout the country, and even internationally.
Lisa reflected on her twenty years leading the Washington State Jewish Historical Society, stating “These years have shaped me in ways I never could have imagined. As I transition into the role of Executive Director Emeritus, I will continue supporting the Society throughout 2026 through mentorship, special projects, and ongoing development and fundraising. My love for this work—and for this community—remains as strong as ever.”
WSJHS is proud to have found such a passionate successor in Hannah Peters, who has served as Deputy Director and been integral to the Society’s leadership. Hannah is now leading the Society as the Jon & Bobbe Bridge Executive Director, which became effective January 1, 2026. This named executive directorship is made possible by a generous gift from long-time supporters, mentors, and philanthropists Jon and Bobbe Bridge, who believe deeply in the Society’s mission to preserve and share the Jewish history of Washington State.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to lead this organization,” said Kranseler. “Hannah has the vision, leadership, and deep commitment to take it forward. I’m excited to continue supporting the work we’ve built together.”
“I am honored to carry forward Lisa’s extraordinary legacy,” said Peters. “Together with our team and community, I look forward to expanding our impact while remaining rooted in the stories and values that define WSJHS.” Kranseler adds “Knowing that I get to support Hannah during this time of transition is both meaningful and deeply rewarding. And I also look forward to introducing her to so many in the community through meetings, zoom calls and some sessions that Hannah will hold on the first Wednesdays of each month, beginning in March. It is a win-win for the community.”
WSJHS expresses deep gratitude to its founders, present and past board members, Society members, funders, and partners for their continued support.
