Agents of Change

Agents of Change highlights 20 Jewish women in Washington who are actively shaping history through their achievements in fields such as arts, activism, athletics, education, business, diplomacy, law, politics, religion, and philanthropy. Through interviews, photographs, and, in some cases, video recordings, the exhibit documents their personal stories and lasting impact. Curated by Jeff Schwager, this project features narrative exhibit panels and a series of four companion podcast episodes, collectively showcasing the breadth and depth of Jewish women’s leadership and influence in the state and beyond.

Confronting Hate Together

The Confronting Hate Together podcast series explores the history and modern landscape of hate, bias, and discrimination in Washington State, and explores how the Asian Pacific Islander, Black, and Jewish communities are leading the fight for a kinder and more just world. This podcast is produced in collaboration with the Black Heritage Society of Washington State, the Washington State Jewish Historical Society, and the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience.

Shema Hear O'Washington

This podcast takes a deep dive into the Washington State Jewish Archives highlights the voices of our community, featuring interviews with some of the region’s most influential figures. Guests include Meta Buttnick, co-founder of the WSJHS and oral history program, Herman Sarkowsky (Seattle Seahawks), Jeff Brotman (founder of Costco), and Gerard Schwarz (Seattle Symphony conductor). These conversations capture the history, impact, and legacy of the Seattle Jewish community.

The WSJHS and SJCC Joint Podcast

The SJCC podcast tells the story of the Stroum Jewish Community Center (the “J”) and its impact on the Seattle Jewish Community. Community members share how the J has played an important role in their lives and in the broader Seattle Jewish community. The episode, published in May of 2020, includes interviews with Sam Stroum, Amy Lavitt (CEO), Lucy Pruzan (former president), and Liz Freedman (immediate past president). The interviews are conducted by Jeff Schwager.
