Stroum Jewish Community Center

Collection Overview

Founded in 1949, the Stroum Jewish Community Center is dedicated to the enrichment of life for the Jewish and general community in the greater Seattle area. Located on Mercer Island, the J offers a variety of programs and activities for everyone. Their mission is to create outstanding programs, partnerships, and spaces that welcome everyone to learn, grow, and celebrate Jewish life and culture. This exhibition is a look at all the ways that the J does just that.

This collaboration between the Washington State Jewish Historical Society and the Stroum Jewish Community Center showcases the history of the organization, friendships formed through it, the traditions that thrive within, and the strength of community at the SJCC.

Stroum Jewish Community Center Podcast

As the Stroum Jewish Community Center celebrates its 70th anniversary and its 50th year on Mercer Island, this special podcast produced by the WSJHS explores the history of "The J" through a series of interviews with its leaders, past and present, and the people, young and old, who make it the heart of Seattle's Jewish community.
