Our Stories

Historic Stories Coming Soon

The WSJHS 2012 theme year has been dubbed "Instant Replay". We want to permanently chronicle the contributions and participation of those of us who were involved in sports, in virtually any capacity.

We know that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of noteworthy personalities and stories and we need all of them. Don't be left out, don't let your children and grandchildren be left out and don't let those of us who have departed be left out either.

We need your stories and your leads to locate our Washingtonian Jews in sports. Instant Replay's sports chronicle will be on our website soon. All these materials will be used in various exhibits and/or publications during the course of the year and in the future.

We want to collect the biographies, stories, news articles, awards, photos and videos of members of our state-wide Jewish Community who were involved in any sport. We want the website to be a research tool as well as a complete as possible historical chronicle. Please copy or scan all documents and send these to us or if you need any help, please let us know.

Currently we are taking submissions to honoring Washington State history about Jews in Sports. Submit your story or the story of a friend or relative from our community who participated or made a contribution at any level of play (high school, college, professional or even current youth participant). This can be as a player, coach, team manager or owner, announcer, videographer, sports writer, statistician and collector of sports memorabilia from any and all competitive sports including baseball, football, basketball, horse racing, track and field, volleyball, golf, tennis, handball, squash, boxing, wrestling, swimming and water sports, equestrian and Special Olympics. Please know that these lists are examples and not exclusive.

We are also planning some wonderful sports related events throughout 2012. They will include a day at Emerald Downs (May 6, 2012), a progressive sports trivia contest, a golf tournament, a softball league reunion, a basketball event and a major Washington Jews in Sports commemorative event (October 28, 2012). So, mark your calendars for these dates and watch for more information.

Funding for "Instant Replay" is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Special Initiatives Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor contact Lisa Kranseler at 206-774-2277.
