History Uncork'd: A Wine Tasting Fundraiser for WSJHS

Wine lovers heed this call!!! The WSJHS will host a Spring Fundraiser. Enjoy some of Washington’s top wines, Rub elbows with new and old friends. Mingle and enjoy some light kosher hors d’oeuvres. Win door prizes of fine wines and support Washington State Jewish History.

Richard Kinssies - Former wine columnist of the Seattle PI, Director of the Seattle Wine School, and Owner of the Wine Outlet.

Richard Kinssies, owner of the Wine Outlet in the SoDo district of Seattle, has been a wine journalist since 1976 and the wine columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer since 1982. He is a features writer for The Wine News, a national wine publication and the author of Seattle Epicure, a book on dining in Seattle and The Art of Wine Tasting, an illustrated guidebook. Additionally, he has hosted his own television and radio programs on wine and is a frequent guest on National Public Radio.
Richard has worked as a sommelier, and owned and operated. A highly acclaimed Seattle restaurant and wine bar. He has traveled extensively to all the major wine regions of the
world and is frequently a judge at national and international competitions. He has also been retained by the French government to educate the local wine trade on the wines of France.

As of May 2009, CellarTracker "world's most complete wine database" has more than 80,000 users, and entries for over 12 million individual bottles. On the site, users can track wines they have purchased and consumed, input tasting notes, value their collections, and share their information with others.

Dolls for Democracy and Diversity Exhibit
Exhibit Dates: NOW!
Where: Winters House with the Eastside Heritage Center 2102 Bellevue Way SE. 98004
Museum Hours: Monday through Friday , 10 am to 4 pm, Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm
The exhibit features a special collection of dolls used by local King County B'nai B'rith women. The dolls were created by portrait doll artist Ruth Cecil Bullard Weeks between 1951 and the early 1970's. These realistic dolls were made to be used by the B'nai B'rith around the U.S. and Canada as an inspiration to children proving that fame and success in life do not depend upon race, religion, family origins or money.

Who’s Minding the Store? Travels to Spokane
Exhibit Dates: February 22 - March 22
Where: Temple Beth Shalom 1322 E. 30th Avenue Spokane, WA 99203
Cost: WSJHS Members - Free
Featuring 16 different Spokane businesses from 1850 -1999, this exhibit tells the stories of the Spokane community through individual narratives, photographs and documents. Community business leaders such as: Grossman Brother's Paint Company, Huppin's, and Miller and Hahn's Menswear all got their start in Spokane. The WSJHS is proud to partner up with Temple Beth Shalom to share these, along with many other, stories.
